the Picker
In a recent zoom group, the groupp leader asked about recent or past moments of 'awe'
- as simple as doing something that surprised you that it worked. i was totally stuck for reasons that weren't clear to me beyond the influence of trauma except for
good karma saves like after being robbed hitchhiking in Spain or the kind village save after i walked through a Tiger reserve in India. so she said 'watch for ones',
and this is what happened today to show me it doesn't take much.
The Picker
Not a nice name for people who come around on blue box recycling day looking for bottles or things where you get a dime for at the return depots. Used to be more pickers but they halved the return price from 20 cents.
So recently, I saw a 'picker' come around and since I had a garbage bag full of mostly 500 l. water bottles that I never get a chance to return, I got talking to him. Very nice man in probably late 20s so I showed him where in the carport I put the bags of empties. I told him he could check every 2 weeks on recycling day. I nicely told him not to go elsewhere on the property and said there were cameras. There aren't but my next door neighbour is the head of the RCMP here and has lots of security cameras so like you never know. He was very agreeable and grateful. I could tell he was not a thief but could use the money.
So today, it turned out that I had 3 bags out in the carport. Nice large, clear blue garbage bags that are perfect for empties. I was more concerned about losing the bags than getting maybe 25 bucks for the empties if I could ever take them back. I never said that to him. So today, I go down early to put out the recycling as they come at the unlordly time of 730 in the morning, and lo and behold, he had taken the bottles and returned the garbage bags, folded in a neat pile and held down from the wind by a scrap piece of wood that was there. I was thankful and in awe.
